Fjaðrárgljúfur River gorge
This beautiful river gorge near Kirkjubærklaustur in South East Iceland had a fresh blast of snow on this February evening. We waded through the river to this point with a clear view through the river gorge. It can be beautiful to wade up through the canyon. Usually the river is low enough to allow safe access to most of the canyon floor. The deepest part to cross is over the knee, so regular boots wont suffice.
This photo was taken from the little road bridge which spans the river.
Because of the sudden increases in visitors to Fjaðrárgljúfur over the last couple of years, the wardens started gradually restricting access to parts of the canyon. This year, Fjaðrárgljúfur has been closed because the damage to the landscape has been so great.
This Northern lights photograph teaches me to be humble at this time in my life. It represents the place I am at in the universe, and maybe you too?
There is every type of waterfall here. The strong flutes, the power walls, the delicate, flowing water cascades through green moss.
One thing I am sure of though is that despite the low visibility, the arctic circle must be in this photograph.
