September Aurora

Red Aurora

Red Aurora

This night photograph was taken on an October night on the banks of Jökulsarlon, South East Iceland. This partly cloudy night was the only time I ever experienced a level 10 Aurora. The lights in the sky actually cast a shadow. At this moment, much of the night sky was red. You can see a red huge on the distant glacier, this is not noise but it is light from the aurora.

Long exposure

This was a 48 second shutter speed with a Magic Cloth. The cloth was brought down over the sky after about 20 seconds. Then the glacier lagoon with the floating icebergs had about twice as much exposure. Luckily there was not too much movement of the glacier ice during the long exposure.
