Hiking Tours
The hiking tours will take your photography to new heights and harden your calf muscles.
Hiking is the surest way to build an incredible collection of landscape images as well as allowing you to fully appreciate the nature and geology of Iceland. Aside from this, the experience will all be in the freshest air you have ever tasted.
Iceland offers many superb hiking opportunities, each with its own unique features. You can choose complete remoteness and rolling coastal hills on the most remote National Park in the country – Hornstrandir, or a short intense hike between two glaciers to the stunning Þorsmörk (thought to be the original inspiration for Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings). Alternatively, the four day hike through the most beautifully coloured mountains of Landmannalauga to Þorsmörk is one of the most popular trails in Iceland.
IcelandAurora Photographic offers complete photographic as well as geophysical guidance through these hikes. There is a general fitness requirement, although hikes do vary in terms of difficulty and the length of time required to complete them.
Specialist ice equipment can be arranged, but hikers are generally expected to be fully equipped with walking clothes and gear for the trip. Tents, sleeping bags and mono/ tripods can be supplied on request. Photographers are required to provide their own memory cards, but there will be opportunities to create DVD back-ups at some points during the trips.
Off-road Tours
The off road tours are just that - off road. Using specially adapted 4X4 jeeps, we explore the part of Iceland not normally seen. Summer off-road driving is restricted to tracks to preserve the fragile earth, but winter off-road driving can be more liberating.
Expect to traverse rivers and streams, tackle mountains and rocks all in the relative comfort of a jeep.
In the summer we can explore the central highlands with very challenging tracks and rivers which lead you to glorious landscapes. In the winter we can explore the frozen wilderness. Winter trips can be more expensive because at least two jeeps are required for safety reasons.
