Note: this could be run in reverse. Weather and road conditions can affect the itinerary.
After your hotel pick up, we head a little North through Iceland’s longest tunnel and then West to the Snæfellsness Peninsula. We spend the day exploring old fishing villages, stunning coastlines, historical churches and the amazing Mountain/waterfall combination at Kirkjufellsfoss. We stay at a hotel close to Kirkjufell to increase your chances of a Sunset, sunrise or Northern lights with the famous mountain.
After an early start at Kirkjufellsfoss we head to a photographer’s paradise at Thingvellir National Park. Set up your camera gear between the continental plates at the Oxararfoss waterfall. From there we take the road to Geysir. Here you will have plenty of opportunity to capture the erupting Strokkur before a photo stop at the huge Gullfoss waterfall. Your Lunch stop could be at Geysir or Gullfoss. Then visit lesser known waterfalls, horses, craters etc. We drive down to the South coast to our hotel near Skogafoss waterfall. We may start with the South coast waterfalls or shoot a sunset at Vík or Dýrholaey before heading to the River gorge at Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon. After lunch at Skaftafell, we might hike up to the Svartifoss waterfall or take a more leisurely stroll towards the glacier tongues. We could finish with a sunset at Jökulsárlón (longer days) before checking in to our Jökulsárlón hotel. Northern lights photography at Jökulsárlón.
Head out after breakfast to a sunset on the diamond beach or an Ice cave adventure (Mid Winter). After a heart-warming Icelandic lunch, we can explore other glacier lagoons and the incredible glacier landscapes or head off to Vestrahorn mountain for Sunset. Relax for a second night at our Jökulsárlón hotel where we can enjoy a traditiona Icelandic meal, some local beer and share pictures. After sunset at the glacier lagoon or ice beach, we head back along the South Coast with stops at waterfalls and lava landscapes. After lunch in we head to wards Vik or Dyrholaey for afternoon light or sunset (shorter days), or we visit Skogafoss in afternoon light and then Seljalandsfoss for the sunset (longer days). The tour finished with a drop-off at your Reykjavik hotel a few hours after the final photo stop.
