Svartifoss waterfall s the highlight of the Skaftafell National Park in South East Iceland. This was a wet September day long before they constructed viewing platforms and bridges at the Svartifoss waterfall. We were able to get up on the West bank among the fallen basalt columns – there’s a clue to the safety of this beautiful spot.
Some textures are worth getting extremely close (what I call intimate foreground). The rewards are clear when you get onto a piece of wet basalt with a mini Icelandic forest growing it’s head.
With Svartifoss, it is the only waterfall I don’t mind chopping off the top. Sometimes I include it, but there is so much detail in the surrounding basalt columns, that you can eliminate all sky – this helps your exposure.
Waterfall waterfall, why do you challenge me so?
You put up a rainbow mask and hide your pots of gold.
With a deafening roar you challenge my senses so
Your relentless cascade falling since times of old.
