The magical lure of Iceland’s Westfjords is the steep mountain fjords packed with RAW nature and wildlife. Driving through the Westfjords is similar to flying. Enjoy the many fingered coastline of this ancient part of Iceland… the mirror like reflections in the sheltered waters and the incredible light in mid-summer. It is impossible to feel stress in this magical part of Iceland.

Locations and activities:

The trip starts with an evening/night photo tour of the Snæfellsness Penninsular. The next day we catch the ferry to the Westfjords, stopping briefly at Flatey Island. On the Westfjords we visit Raudisandur, Latrabjarg, Dynjandi, Önundarfjorður, Isfjörður and slightly beyond.

Seasons:

Running only from June to September (and can be subject to change).

Timings:

The photo tour could start late afternoon mid June. This trip might involve shooting through the night hours (22.00-06.00) and sleeping in tents during the day. Reverting to regular hours towards September. Booking this tour with the camping option will save significantly on hotel bills.

Puffin Cliffs

On the Westfjords we will explore the red sand beaches of Rauðisandur with it’s incredible mountain surround and black church. We also get up close to the puffins at Latrabjarg. Our photo tour takes in the enormity of the Dynjandi Waterfall complex and tackles the 4x4 mountain roads of the region.

Opportunities to bath in free hot’spring baths, we can also relax in the calm splendor of Iceland’s oldest hills and reflect in the stillness of the sheltered fjord waters.

You could head to the Northern part of the Westfjords with an opportunity to fly to the remote Nature reserve at Hornstrandir. Here we can get up close to the wild Arctic foxes that have no human fear.

The Northern part of the Westfjords surrounding Ísafjarðardjup has many wonderful landscape and nature photography opportunities such as Bolungarvik and Hestafjord. Also the fishing town of Ísafjörður and the witchcraft village of Holmavik.

Accommodation:

Mid summer could involve camping in tents. Hotel or guest house Accommodation could be arranged in central locations.

Overnight photo tour packages are arranged with 3 star hotels with private bathroom. Priority is given to location as we arrange hotels close to top photography sites. Please contact us if you want to upgrade or downgrade your hotel.

Meals

We usually eat evening meal in Restaurants. Prices are between $20-$40 for a main meal. But we can be flexible if you wanted to cater for yourselves. Breakfast is normally included if you choose Hotels.

Accommodation:

Your accommodation will be arranged for the duration of the tour, let us know your preferences. Hotel rooms can be single, twin, double or triple. Hotel rooms have private bathrooms, but some guest houses may have shared bathrooms. Tents can be arranged for 2 or 3 pax. Sleeping bag and air mattress can be provided.
