This exciting night sky is over Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon in South East Iceland. We went through a few evenings shooting these Northern Lights on a multi day visit through the highlands and along the South Coast. The main evening was excessively active, and we got some fabulous light on Jokulsarlon during the day. The next evening we checked the forecast at our inn and it looked very encouraging again. We like to get set up and ready with our camera gear if the chances of aurora are promising. Some of the time, we don’t have to watch the Northern lights meters on the grounds that the mood in the dining room is electric with confident travel photographers. There isn’t much else that can produce such prompt energy as the chance of a glorious light show like this.
I already had a great session with my customers and was heading back to the car to warm up, when I saw this final burst of Northern lights activity over the lagoon. I wasn’t far from a good spot, so I got my camera and tripod out again and tok several pictures of the renewed aurora activity. This was my favourite exposure of the night and it could be my favourite of all time.
The 15 second exposure time is very short for a Northern Lights photograph. The sky was splendid to such an extent that we had a brilliant aurora, yet as you can see it must be agreeable with the glacier icebergs and amazing reflection. This Northern Lights photo print has it all.
