Vik Sun Stacks Canvas
£46.50 – £101.50 inc. VAT
There are a few opportunities each year to catch a sunset so close to the sea stacks off the south coast of Iceland. I have been in this very spot when the sun set behind the cliffs and it took all the magic away. I am not going to give away the secret dates when this happens, but I will tell you that it happens in the Winter time.
Vík í Mýrdal lies on the South shore of Iceland. Vík was a fishing town before. Men would dispatch their fair sized fishing boats from the dark sand shore, which was an exceptionally risky occupation given the gigantic surf here. Wherever along the shore line are tokens of some genuine boat wrecks including a dedication to suffocated sailors whose boats were likely wrecked on the sea stacks (Reynisdrangur). Vík is at risk from glacier floods from a Katla volcano eruption under Mýrdalsjökull. Such floods come like clockwork and are depicted as the greatest floods people have experienced. The Church is arranged high on a slope and is a solid refuge if any future eruptions happen.
