Volcano Hill on Canvas
£45.50 – £99.00 inc. VAT
Just weeks before the notorious Eyjafjallajokull volcano sent a plume of very fine ash towards Britain in 2010, I went alarmingly close to a crater of gushing lava at Fimmvörðurháls. Along with fellow photographers, we drove up onto the glacier to the crater eruption where we could almost touch it. The sound of the volcano was the most amazing sensory experience. Some red hot lava melted through the ice, right where I was standing. Safe volcanoes don’t exist, you have to expect the unexpected. Have some good times. This was my first full view of the Fimmvorudhals crater eruption as we arrived at the location in our Super Jeeps. Soon after this photo was taken, we drove up onto the hill for an amazing view. I like the human aspect to this photo. It shows how humans interact with the Nature even when it is a deadly force in the middle of nowhere – our fascination always wins. This was an expensive trip for me, but you can enjoy the scene at home with a simple online order.
